Dental Hygienist in Washington
General Comments –
Dental Hygienists can obtain long term disability insurance from a few carriers today that provide high quality coverage. The plan from Assurity, called Century+, offers a definition of total disability that covers a Dental Hygienist in their specific occupation for the entire benefit period.
If the insured suffers an injury to their hand and is unable to see patients and is deemed to be totally disabled under the terms of the contract, they could receive the entire total disability benefit.
The benefit could be paid to them for the reminder of the benefit period, out to age 65 or 67, or until they return to doing the material and substantial duties of a Dental Hygienist. This benefit would be received even if they are working in another occupation, regardless of income in that new occupation.
Ameritas and Standard also offer quality plans. The benefit of the Ameritas DInamic Foundation policy is that it has a better residual provision than Assurity does. Assurity pays a residual benefit (for partial disabilities) for a max of 5 years and Ameritas would have a residual that lasts for the entire benefit period (to age 65 or 67). Ameritas also has a Good Health benefit where the elimination period is reduced by 2 days for each year that a claim is not filed (never drops below 30 days).
